Balaenoptera is een geslacht uit de familie der vinvissen (Balaenopteridae). Het geslacht omvat acht soorten walvissen, waaronder de twee grootste dieren die ooit op aarde hebben geleefd: de blauwe vinvis (Balaenoptera musculus) en de gewone vinvis (Balaenoptera physalus).
