    Among the new observations in the study area, Ampelisca verga, a West African species originally described as a variety of A. aequicornisby Reid (1951, in Dauvin and Bellan-Santini, 1985) off Dakar, Senegal, was recorded in the Algarve coast, southern Portugal, setting a new northern distribution limit for this species (Sampaio et al., 2016).
