    Hooked squid - Wikipedia

The hooked squid, family Onychoteuthidae, currently comprise about 20–25 species (several known from only single life stages and thus unconfirmed), in six or seven genera. They range in mature mantle length from 7 cm to a suggested length of 2 m for the largest member, Onykia robusta. The family … Meer weergeven

The family Onychoteuthidae was recently revised by Bolstad (2010), who recognized the following seven genera (with about 25 species).
Our results support monophyly of the family Onychoteuthidae and each of its seven genera. Total onychoteuthid species diversity likely exceeds 34 species, making it the third-most diverse oegopsid (deep-sea squid) family.
In light of the general systematic disarray of the Onychoteuthidae, a global revision of the family follows, based on ~1500 specimens examined from 19 repositories.
Onychoteuthids are small (ca. 7 cm ML) to large (ca. 2 m ML), muscular squids that have two series of smooth-ringed suckers on the arms and two series of hooks on the tentacular clubs (and, rarely, marginal suckers as well).
