    The current study is the first to document a vast swarm of the pelagic tunicate Thalia democratica inshore of the Egyptian Mediterranean waters.     The current study documents the first huge swarm of the Salpida Thalia democratica in the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea at the coast of Stanley. The massive swarm of this pelagic tunicate coincides with a red tide bloom (two Dinoflagellate species, namely, Prorocentrum minimum and P. triestinum ).
    Thalia democratica regularly swarm after the spring phytoplankton bloom (Heron 1972; Deibel and Paffenhofer 2009 ), and it is likely that swarm magnitude may be more dependent upon phytoplankton composition and/or abundance than water types or predation.
    The current swarm of Thalia democratica mainly correlates with higher water temperature and salinity in the investigated area (25.61 °C, 36.45 salinity).
