    Fin-clips from Heterodontus quoyi (n = 10) were collected by researchers in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador in 2015 and preserved in 70% ethanol. DNA was extracted from a total of 67 specimens using the Omega Bio-Tek E.Z.N.A. Tissue DNA Kit with minor adjustments to the manufacturer’s protocol (Fig. 1 ).

    To address this problem, we developed a PCR-RFLP method toquickly and accurately identify the three species of Heterodontus occupying the coastlines and islands of the eastern Pacific ( H. francisci, H. mexicanus, and H. quoyi ).
