    William Henry Benson (1803, probably in Dublin - 27 January 1870) was a civil servant in British India and an amateur malacologist. He made large collections of molluscs and described numerous species from the U.K., India and South Africa. He joined Haileybury College in 1819 and joined the East India Company at Bengal.
    His father was Thomas Starling Benson who was born in 1775. The Benson family came from the North Riding in Yorkshire. Thomas Benson was a business man and had an interest in the Meux brewery which was based in London in Liquor-Pond Lane, now Clerkenwell Road. He married Elizabeth Meux (his third wife), heiress of the brewery.
    Richard Benson was born in London in 1824 and was the youngest child in a wealthy family. His father was Thomas Starling Benson who was born in 1775. The Benson family came from the North Riding in Yorkshire. Thomas Benson was a business man and had an interest in the Meux brewery which was based in London in Liquor-Pond Lane, now Clerkenwell Road.
    William H. Benson, 81, of Kandiyohi, died Wednesday, February 10th at his home. His public visitation will be from 3-5:00 pm, Sunday, February 21st at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. A private service will be on Monday, February 22nd at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi. Burial will be in the church cemetery. www.hafh.org
