Aplysina aerophoba is a sponge of the class Demospongiae, order Verongiida and family Aplysindae. It is distributed along the coasts of the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from the Bay of Biscay to the coasts of Mauritania, including the entire Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands.

Distribution and habitat Aplysina aerophoba is chiefly a Mediterranean species, but is also found in adjacent parts of the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal and northwestern Spain. It is common in the Canary Islands. Its depth range is from the lower intertidal zone to about 20 m (70 ft), usually being found in sunlit locations.
