Pei, L., Jiang, L., Chen, C. et al. Gene rearrangements in the mitochondrial genome of Eucleoteuthis luminosa (Ommastrephidae, Cephalopoda) and phylogenetic implications for Coleoidea.
Here, we have determined the complete mitogenome sequence of Eucleoteuthis luminosa for the first time. The total length is 20,300 bp, including 18 protein-coding genes, COI - COIII, ATP6, and ATP8 are duplicated, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes ( 12S and 16S rRNA).
    The overall base composition of E. luminosa was 36.3% A, 32.93% T, 19.61% C, and 11.16% G, with an A + T content of 69.23% and a C + G content of 30.77%. Moreover, similarly to most Cephalopoda species (Table 2 ), there was a significant AT bias.
Indeed, the gene arrangement of Sepioteuthis lessoniana (Akasaki et al., 2006) is different from that of other species of Loliginidae. These findings suggest that compared to Decapodiformes, Octopodiformes has a relatively conservative gene arrangement and tRNA structure.
