Noncanonical usage of stop codons in ciliates expands proteins
WEB23 feb. 2024 · Group IV ciliates encompass Mesodinium pulex, Blepharisma japonicum and Euplotes focardii, each of which utilizes the reassigned codons UAA Y, UAG Y, UGA W, and UGA C, respectively . For two reasons, the proteins encoded by these MMESTP transcripts are unlikely to represent the entire protein complement of all 11 ciliate species.
