Sea anemones are carnivorous animals that primarily feed on small fish, plankton, and scraps of other animals. They have a unique feeding mechanism that involves stinging their prey with their tentacles and then pulling the prey towards their mouth.

Most sea anemone types tend to consume small fish and crabs, though some larger breeds have even been seen eating birds and ants. Having a good balance of protein in their diet is important to help them grow. The more they eat, the more "legs" they gain, which increases their size and strength.

It feeds on small fishes and a variety of invertebrates that it captures with its sturdy tentacles. While more delicate species rake in bits of food, the fish-eating anemone has sturdy tentacles that can capture shrimp and small fishes.

An anemone will not eat its host clownfish, or really any fish for that matter – unless it’s sick, dying, or already dead perhaps! Sea anemones in the wild prefer to eat clams, crab, urchins, mussels, and other free roaming aquatic invertebrates.
