The taxonomy of two species of Indian pilumnid crabs is treated herein. Heteropanope neolaevis Deb, 1985, originally described from northeastern India, is retained in the genus Aniptumnus Ng, 2002 as a valid species and removed from synonymy with Aniptumnus

The taxonomy of the western Indian Ocean pilumnid crab, Pilumnopeus convexus (Maccagno, 1936) (type locality: Ethiopia) is discussed and the poorly known P. salomonensis Ward, 1942 (type locality: Chagos Archipelago) is shown to be its junior synonym.
