  1. Euphausiids of the World Ocean 1.1: Thysanoessa raschii

Thysanoessa raschii, sometimes known as Arctic krill, is one of the most common euphausiid species of the subarctic and Arctic seas. They may reach 20ā€“25 millimetres (0.8ā€“1.0 in) long, and are sexually mature above 14 mm (0.6 in). T. raschii is a major prey item of several taxa, planktivorous fishes and marine mammals.
    T. raschii is a food source for whales, seals, fish, and birds. T. raschii inhabits neritic waters of the northern Pacific and Atlantic ocean basins. It is known from the Arctic Ocean. In the western Pacific it has been found in the Okhotsk Sea and southward to 40°N on the east coast of Japan.
A possible hypothesis is that T. raschii, but not T. inermis, may have experienced a significant historical demographic event, including range shift or reduction or population bottleneck.
Dry weight with respect to size class for T. inermis was generally highest of the three Thysanoessa species, followed by T. longipes and then T. raschii. Comparisons among species for all data sets revealed that each species was statistically different from the other. 3.3. Carbon and nitrogen content
