Heterokrohnia involucrum is known from a depth up to 3800 m, it was found in collections made in summer at the Canada Basin (Arctic Ocean) from where it was originally described (see Dawson 1968 ). It was deemed endemic to the zone since it was not previously recorded elsewhere.

Members of Heterokrohnia inhabit abyssal bentho-pelagic habitats, also called the deep benthic boundary layer. Heterokrohnid chaetognaths are presumed to be opportunistic and can feed on sediment (limnivores) (Casanova 1986 ), but they can also behave as predators (Casanova et al. 2012 ).
