Their names, often interchangeable as “Izanagi and Izanami” or “Izanami and Izanagi,” represent the dualistic nature of the cosmos, with Izanagi symbolizing the male principle and Izanami embodying the female principle.

Izanagi and Izanami were a divine couple in Japanese Shintoism who were responsible for creating the islands of Japan and countless other gods and goddesses. They symbolize the concept of yin and yang, with Izanagi as the male principle and Izanami as the female principle. They are seen as the ultimate creators of the universe.

Simply put, the Izanami is a Jutsu that decides the destiny of someone, just as Izanagi allows one to alter it. The process by which it works is quite complex when compared to Izanagi, however. While the Izanagi can simply be cast on reality and then be used to freely manipulate it, more preparation is needed for Izanami to work.

Many Uchiha were using the Izanagi haphazardly and to reprimand them, the jutsu was created. The major difference between the two jutsu would be that Izanagi changes the outcome whilst the Izanami controls it.

Izanami's painful and fatal birth introduces death into the new world, while she herself withdraws into the shadows of the Yomi, the world of the dead.
