    Alepisaurus ferox is found from the epipelagic zone down to the bathypelagic one, ranging from just beneath the surface to 2700 m depth. It inhabits mainly tropical to cold temperate marine waters of the world’s oceans, although adults may reach subarctic waters as far north as Greenland, Iceland and the Bering Sea during feeding migrations.

    Several specimens of Alepisaurus ferox Lowe, 1833 were caught in the coastal Galician waters (Northwest Spain). From two preserved specimens, morphometric and meristic parameters, along with DNA barcoding, confirmed the identification of the specimens.
