The Zebra seabream (Diplodus cervinus Lowe, 1838), belongs to the class of Actinopterygii, the ray-finned fishes, to the order of Perciformes and to the family of Sparidae. The name of the genus comes from the Greek “diplous” = two, and “odous” = tooth, therefore “double tooth” with reference to the double incisors, particularly evident.

Diplodus cervinus cervinus is een ondersoort van de straalvinnige vissen uit de familie van de zeebrasems (Sparidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1838 door Lowe.
