    A single specimen of the non-indigenous species G. reticularis was recently recorded off the coast of Israel (Stern and Goren 2013 ). Gymnothorax unicolor has been also recorded in the eastern Atlantic, at Cape Verde, the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores, Morocco, and southern Portugal.
    Gymnothorax is a genus of fish in the family Muraenidae found in Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean. With more than 120 species, it the most speciose genus of moray eels.

    The etymology of “gymnothorax” comes from the Greek “gymnos” = naked and from the Latin “thorax” = thorax. It is, finally, a fish with bare thorax, seen that it has no scales. The name of the species “ unicolor ” = with only one colour, in Latin, refers to the livery substantially brown without any drawing.
