    Tirmizi and Kazmi ( 1986) described a subspecies of this species namely, Acanthonyx elongatus inglei from the Pakistani waters by providing a comparison of morphological details with A. elongatus elongatus in NHM. There is still no clear taxonomic decision for these two subspecies.
    Anterolateral margins of carapace with two teeth, becoming smaller posteriorly; rostral spines as long as or slighlty longer than anterior-orbital teeth; chelipeds with three teeth on cutting edge of movable finger Acanthonyx elongatus White 1847b: 11 [nomen nudum].
