    Ophryotrocha puerilis is a species of marine polychaete worms in the order Eunicida. It is native to the northern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea and is the type species of the genus Ophryotrocha. Ophryotrocha puerilis starts life as a male but later changes sex to female.
    The protandric hermaphrodite Ophryotrocha puerilis possesses one pair of eyes. They are located in the peristomium. Each light-sensitive organ consists of one sensory cell and one to two supporting cell (s) embedded in a cup-shaped reflector. The sensory-supporting cell complex is enveloped by a basal lamina.
    Reproduction and larval morphology of Ophryotrocha puerilis, O. labronica, O. nologlandulata, O. hartmanni, and O. bacci are described. All species have been cultivated in the laboratory. The morphology of adults and larvae is uniform, but there is a considerable variation in the shape of the egg masses.
